RE: MMOOOOOOOO Cake!

Eric, most Dutch oven recipes are based on a 12" Dutch oven. However, you can easily adjust the recipe to fit the oven you're using. I have four ovens that I regularly use. Two 12" (6 Qt.) ovens, one 10" (4 Qt.) oven and a 9-1/3 Qt. oven. All my ovens are made by Camp Chef, and I really like the quality AND price of their products. I have three kids with hollow legs, so when I'm making a dinner or meat dish, I use the 9-1/3 Qt. If I'm making dessert or a side dish, I'll use the 10". If I'm making a double dessert or potatoes, I'll use the 12". It all depends on what I'm cooking.

RE: MMOOOOOOOO Cake!

Julie- Did you line the D.O. with foil? Nope! I don't line my ovens with foil. They're seasoned so beautifully that I don't need to. As it was a tad late when I cleaned up, I just scraped out the oven as best I could, put the lid on it and put it in the basement of our 5er to be dealt with in the morning. I know, I know, I shouldn't have done that, but hey, it was a rally and a potluck and a campfire and cocktails! :B I took the oven out in the morning, filled it with water and set it on my propane stove to "cook." About 10 minutes later, all the cake had been scraped off, so I dumped the water, let the oven cool and then took it to the sink to wash (water only) and dry, coat with my cast iron seasoning and put it back in it's storage bag in the 5er's basement. If you have an oven that's seasoned well, there's no need for foil . . . unless you're going to burn whatever you're cooking! :W

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

All I can say is MOO! http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/party/party0041.gif And I think next time you should use chocolate chunks instead of chips for even more chocolatey goodness! :B Oh my! I can do that! Oh my! :E :E :E :B :B :B

RE: MMOOOOOOOO Cake!

Chuck & Terry, it called for the 10", but I used my 12". It worked in the 12", but would have been just fine in the 10", too. It just wasn't as "deep" in the 12" as it would have been in the 10". Does that make sense? :? Dave, the consistency is like any other regular cake that you bake in the oven. It just has all those other ingredients in it that makes it taste so AWESOME. We didn't frost it with anything. It was so sweet and soooooooo good, it didn't need anything more. :) Just ask the ladies at the Wisconsin Fall Rally . . .

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

Julie thats a cake I need to wash down with big glass of ice cold milk :B will that recipe work in the oven? Oh yea, Mike, milk works if you don't have the Captain available! :B (sorry, inside joke). Sure, you can make it in the oven at home, but it won't taste as good as in the Dutch oven. :W A 10" Dutch oven is 4 quarts, so that's the size casserole-type dish you'd need to use.

MMOOOOOOOO Cake!

I made a cake in my Dutch Oven for the Saturday potluck at our Fall Wisconsin Rally, and I must say, it was one of the BEST, easiest cakes I've ever had! It used to be called a "Rocky Road Cake" but we had to change the name after trying it! 1 box chocolate cake mix, mixed as directed 3/4 cup chopped walnuts 1 (12 oz.) bag chocolate chips 1/2 bag mini marshmallows Place a layer of marshmallows in 10" Dutch oven. Mix cake as directed, adding walnuts, remaining marshmallows and chocolate chips. Pour over marshmallows in Dutch oven. Bake at 350 (14 coals on top; 7 on bottom) until done (about 35 minutes or so). Enjoy! Julie PS, sorry, by the time it was done cooking, it was dark out, so I didn't take any pics . . . Trust me, though, you won't be disappointed!

OK folks, here's the recipe for the MOO cake I made for the Saturday potluck. If you missed it . . . well, sucks to be you! :B It was one of the most incredible, simple desserts I've ever made in the Dutch oven! And truth be told, I don't think I ever had that much fun, all because of a chocolate cake! :B It used to be called a "Rocky Road Cake" but we had to change the name after trying it! 1 box chocolate cake mix, mixed as directed 3/4 cup chopped walnuts 1 (12 oz.) bag chocolate chips 1/2 bag mini marshmallows Place a layer of marshmallows in 10" Dutch oven. RE: Diesel...$3.29 gal in WA

On Wednesday (the day we went out of town), I paid $3.73 for diesel. Gas was at $3.20. Today, gas is at $2.90 and diesel is down to $3.10! WAHOOOOOO! Can't wait for it to keep dropping! For the last six months, I've only been putting $50 at a time in the truck, hoping against hope that the price would come down next time I need to fill up . . . obviously THAT didn't happen! Good thing 1/2 a tank can last me two weeks, if I watch my driving! ;)

When we left home on Wednesday, gas was at $3.10 and diesel was $3.73. Erica just sent me a text (from the school bus). Gas is down to $2.90 and diesel is $3.10!!!!!!!!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOO! Sure hope it keeps going down!

BTW, who makes thoes wooden cup holders? If you're talking about what was at the door prize table, I believe those are holders for those little 1 lb. propane cylinders and that they are made by Butch (C.B.) Julie

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

We got home around 3 p.m. today, after a GREAT drive! Much less wind than when we left on Wednesday. Poor Greg, he had to leave for work at 6 and will be there until midnight. :( We had a wonderful time and are so glad we were able to see everyone after missing the spring rally. Course, we missed those who were unable to make it. Chuck and Judy -- I wish we could have seen Chuck as Mother Superior, up close and personal! :B John & Julie -- more than once, folks asked about that Apple Pie of yours! I think you're gonna have to make a double batch for the Spring rally! :B Bob and Mike -- it just wasn't right, not have you Bears fans to pick on! :B In all seriousness, though, you both were on our minds and in our hearts a LOT this weekend. We missed you more than we can say. You're both in our thoughts and prayers. To all those that we missed saying "goodbye" to when we left, please accept our apologies! Once we pulled out of our site (Myrna didn't realize we had a pull though!), there was a rig behind us, and then there were TWO behind us at the dump station. There are many folks that we missed saying goodbye to, and in case I'd forget someone, I'm not going to mention any names. Suffice it to say that we had an absolute blast this weekend with everyone and are thrilled that we were able to make it and can't wait for the spring rally! We'll be sure to post our pics and video as soon as we can! The Mik Clan

RE: Winterizing your camper

A bypass kit is for your hot water heater so that you can bypass the hot water heater and not put six or ten gallons on antifreeze in there. What you are talking about is a pump conversion winterizing kit, which will allow you to pump antifreeze directly from the gallon bottle into your water lines. The above two items, while not necessities, make winterizing much easier.

We'll record some video for you guys. We're certainly going to miss you! We'll for sure have a cocktail or two for you, and of course, say some prayers. Julie PS, Wendy, if no one else needs any ice, I'll be happy to take half a bag or so off your hands.

Lori, don't forget to call Indian Trails first, to make sure your site is available a day early!

Lori, Abby is 11 year old, too. Erica is 14 and Aaron is 17. If you can drag him away from his laptop, he still likes to play football, go fishing, swimming, etc. Abby's best friends are all boys, so I'm betting they'll get along famously!

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

Hey, Steve . . . If I have a problem, can I give one of those F450's a REAL test drive? I'll only be pulling the Taj Mahal a 125 miles or so on Wednesday and of course again on Sunday. :B :B :B HEHE :B and of course you'd like it delivered for the test, with a wiring harness and a 5er hitch installed, to your door? :B:B Oh yeah and in Dark Toreador too, right? But of course! :B :B :B

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

We're all cleaned, packed, and ready to go!!!! The dodge lost a main wiring harness and has no cooling system at the moment, so I'm going to have to baby the 5er to the campground. I don't think it is quite up to pulling the Taj Mahal though. Stupid harness is 1800 bucks:( I can't wait to see everyone. I'm soo excited Joe Dang, Joe! That's an EXPENSIVE harness! At least Indian Trails is only a short drive for you guys! I can't wait until Wednesday! We soooooooooo need to get away and see all our friends! I still have a lot of packing to do, and Erica has a volleyball game tomorrow night, and then I have to stay for part of the Varsity game, because it's Parent's Night, so I'm thinking that Wednesday is going to be VERY busy!
